The
Central Botanical Garden was founded in 1934. The
first plantings in the Central Botanical Garden
were made in spring of 1935.
From
the first days a wide research is under way in the
Central Botanical Garden concerning introduction
and acclimatizing ornamental, drug, aromatic and
other types of useful plants of native and foreign
flora in order to enrich the raw material resources
of the republic. A number of much valuable tree,
bush and grass kinds from different botanical-geographical
areas of the world (Eastern Asia, North America,
Meditteraenian coast etc.) are cultivated in the
garden togethes with the plants belonging to the
native flora. As a consequence today the collection
of the Botancal Garden, 45,7 ha in area, numbers
about 2500 species, forms and varieties.
