Main trends of scientific activity of CBG:


    Biodiversity, introduction of useful, rare and endangered plant species and creation of informational bank.

Main scientific results:

1. 1. The bioecology of rare and endangered decorative plants was studied and elaborated agrotechnical methods for using some of these plants in greening of Republic.
2. 2. The collection of about 400 decorative rose kinds adapted to Azerbaijan climatic and soil condition has created for the first time. Growth agrotechnics of 86 sorts of this collection in Azerbaijan have elaborated.
3. 3. Collection of 6 rare and endangered species of Tulipa genius (Iris acutiloba C.A.Mey, I.elegantissima Sosn., I.reticulata Bieb., I.iberia Hoffm., I.camillae Grossh., I.lycotis Woronow) was created, studied methods of multiply, created genofound.
4. 4. Bioecological properties of new 14 kinds of bushes (Coloneaster, 1 sp. of Arbutus, 3 sp. of Hibiskus, Berberis), 12 species of decorative and medicinal plants (Othona capensis Harv., Senecio articulatus (L.F.) sch. Bup., S.herrianus Dinter, S.petraeus (R.E.Fries) Jacobs, Cyanothis somaliensis Clarke, Aechmea fasciata "Morgana", Ananas comosus "Variegatus", Billbergia nutans Rgl., Guzmania "Grand Prix", G."Empire", Agava americana L. var. marginata Trel., A.filifera Salm-Dyck) included to collection of CBG were studied.

Involvement of specialists:

    CBG attract the special attention to involvement of high quality specialists. At present time 88 collaborators of CBG are 31 scientists, 1 - corresponding member of ANAS, 2 - assistant of professor. There is PhD courses at CBG. 13 botanists have received their PhD degree, 6 PhD students are busy on their thesis. Some of PhD students from other countries continue their works at CBG.

Expeditions:

    For enrichment of the CBG collection the scientists of garden have some scientific expeditions to the different regions of Azerbaijan: Gazakh-Gyandja, Guba-Gusar, Lenkoran-Masalli, Nakhchivan and Shemakha. Seeds of decorative bushes and trees and sowing material of citrus plants (Parrotic, Acer, Eucalyptus, Citrus, Fortunella, Acacia, Mimosa, Rosa, Viola, Mespilus, Musa, Kiwi, Acca) were introduced in CBG from these regions.
    Shemakha Prop Point functions in CBG for strengthening of links between science and industry. In this point big collection of almonds was created in non-suitable for sowing plots.
